Growing up with a love for comics and character design, Malakai Smith developed his artistic style through years of drawing the characters and stories that inspired him. His work reflects an appreciation for comic book storytelling while celebrating his connection to both West Virginia and Filipino culture. Creating each piece entirely freehand with traditional tools like Copic markers and Micron pens, Malakai produces intricate illustrations through a detailed process built on precision and patience.

His work has received recognition through the Congressional Art Competition and the Clay Center Award for Art, with pieces featured at the Juliet Art Museum and the West Virginia Culture Center.
